Mt. Philo Barn Art School
What to Expect:
Each day includes horseback riding, art-making, and hands-on learning about farm life and the natural world. Camps take place in a beautiful historic barn in Charlotte, Vermont. The space includes a theater, costume room, art studios, and horse stables. Children spend their days immersed in creativity, animal care, and imaginative play.
Charlotte founded Mt. Philo Barn Art School in 2013, inspired by art’s power to connect us with our imagination and the fullest expression of ourselves. She holds a Master’s degree in Depth Psychology and Creativity, which informs her teaching approach, exploring the creative process as a path of healing, integration, and joy. Her work is supported by the many animals on the farm, including horses, dogs, cats, and chickens.
Art projects include painting, drawing, block printing, zine-making, theater, and creating art inspired by the animals, gardens, and rhythms of farm life.
For younger campers, the program is gently structured around building comfort, confidence, and respect with the horses. The week begins with learning how to be calmly and safely around the horses, including grooming, leading, and understanding horse body language. Riding takes place on lead line, with a counselor holding each horse, and focuses on mounting and dismounting, balance, and feeling secure in the saddle. The emphasis is on connection, listening, and developing trust. Time with the horses is closely supervised and intentionally paced for this age group. For campers with riding experience, time with the horses is adjusted to support growing independence while maintaining the same emphasis on safety, care, and connection.
Hours: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Cost: $450 per child for a 5-day camp
Summer 2026 camps are full!
